CO₂

A groundbreaking CCS-project, co-developed by DESFA and EcoLog, comprising an offshore floating liquefaction and export terminal, connected to Revithousa Island. This facility provides an outlet for aggregated CO₂-volumes, captured from Greek refineries and cement producers and delivered by pipeline.

ApolloCO₂ is one of the premier European CCS-projects and was awarded funding through the Innovation Fund in 2025. Construction is expected to start in 2027, with operations commencing in 2030.

This capacity can subsequently be expanded with two million tonnes of CO₂ per year, by connecting additional companies to the pipeline delivery system.

Floating Liquefaction & Export Terminal

The CO₂-pipeline will terminate at Revithousa Island. This island already features an operational LNG terminal. The cold energy generated by the regasification of LNG will be leveraged to liquefy the CO₂ for overseas transport. The result is a significant reduction in costs. This process will be done through a Floating Liquefaction and Storage Unit, which also features a storage capacity of 33,000m³. The vessels can be loaded directly from this facility.

Dedicated Vessels

EcoLog will deploy dedicated CO₂ vessels to transport the liquid CO₂ to storage locations in Prinos (Greece) and Ravenna (Italy). Other locations could also be used for permanent storage. By utilising low-pressure vessels, the total volume per vessel can be increased to 24,000m³. EcoLog has already shortlisted shipyards for construction.

Aggregation

ApolloCO₂ is premised on the economies of scale benefits generated by aggregation. By consolidating large volumes of large industrial players, costs can be reduced. With DESFA as co-developer, the synergies with the pipeline system can be optimised, providing Greek industries with an effective and competitive service to reduce their carbon emissions.
