Hydrogen
Solutions

Hydrogen is a natural energy source with wide applications for industry, mobility and digital infrastructure. Its adoption can propel technological innovation and decarbonisation, while bolstering competitiveness. There are various regions globally that have access to abundant natural resources that allow for the cost-effective production of hydrogen. Integrated midstream solutions connect these regions to demand centres in Europe and Asia.

EcoLog’s liquid hydrogen solutions are the bridge to tie supply to demand. The versatile and non-toxic properties of liquid hydrogen make it the perfect vector to deliver hydrogen overseas and to its final destination.

Liquid Hydrogen Vessels

EcoLog’s sister company GasLog has vast experience in the shipping of LNG. This experience and the lessons learned have been applied to the development of dedicated liquid hydrogen vessels. These vessels, which EcoLog is currently developing, are the breakthrough that enable the launch of dedicated liquid hydrogen corridors.

The first generation of vessels are sized at 30,000m³, with six tanks of 5,000m³ each. The containment system of the tanks means that every kilogram of hydrogen loaded at the point of departure, is a kilogram of hydrogen offloaded at the point of destination. EcoLog has received an independent Approval in Principle for its design in 2023. EcoLog is therefore primed to take the next step in the realisation of this critical piece for the liquid hydrogen supply chain.

Liquid Hydrogen Terminal

Port of Amsterdam — Flagship project

EcoLog has several liquid hydrogen terminals in development, spanning multiple continents. Such energy infrastructure is crucial to secure stable, non-fossil energy supply for both Europe and Asia. The flagship project in Amsterdam will have a first phase annual throughput capacity of 200,000 Mt and is to become operational in Q4 2030. Total capacity can sbe expanded to 600,000 Mt in Phase 2.

Last-Mile Delivery

The versatility of liquid hydrogen makes it exceptional. The terminal can deliver hydrogen to end users in both its gaseous and its liquid form. The former will be facilitated through two pipeline connections. The latter can be done via barges, trucks and isotainers (for transport by rail or truck), which can be filled directly on the terminal for either transport to another distribution hub or for bespoke delivery.

Liquid Hydrogen Corridors

Through its end-to-end value chain approach, EcoLog works very closely with each link of the supply chain to create the alignment necessary to make these corridors a reality. EcoLog works on intercontinental, intra-European and intra-Asian corridors. Through its solutions, EcoLog makes production located in the Middle-East, Asia, North and South America and Europe available to the demand centres in Europe and Asia.

Wide Applications

The wide applications possible for hydrogen make it viable for various economic sectors. This includes steel-making, heavy duty road mobility, maritime transport, data centres, food industry, brick production and many other sectors. Through the liquid hydrogen solutions of EcoLog, robust, green and cost-competitive energy supply can be made available to the companies active in these economic cornerstones. This makes an urgently needed contribution to the needs of both European and Asian countries for a more secure energy system.
